What does an Office Admin do when working from home?

What does my role look like when I am working from home due to the societal impacts of Covid-19? Thankfully we all had some warning about the virus and the effect it could have on our working arrangements. I was therefore able to plan; to be forewarned is to be forearmed after all! One of my tasks during the build up to this crisis was to ensure that the office was well stocked with antibacterial cleaners, wipes, hand gel and lots of soap.
Now that I have set up camp at home, alternating between the lounge and kitchen to vary my view; I juggle working from home with looking after a five-year-old who requires both home schooling, and entertaining! The weather has been lovely so far, enabling my daughter to play in the garden, and affording me time to concentrate on the task in hand. Knowing that the office is taking care of itself, I can focus on the projects and admin tasks that fall under my remit.
I look after all our compliance as a business, such as GDPR and Consent forms. These aspects will continue throughout the home working period as we have a duty of care to all our 25,000+ candidates. As members of the REC (Recruitment Employment Confederation), we have a strict code of conduct of working and I send out consent forms to our candidates as the assignments are often highly confidential. I also look after our very popular Build your Board profiles, where we anonymously showcase our candidates. This is done on a voluntary and confidential basis and we try and show case a cross section of our candidate portfolio and is proving to be popular with our clients.
Working remotely has given me a chance to catch up on those tasks that I sometimes get distracted away from when the office phone rings, a visitor comes in or a delivery arrives. We are holding regular team meetings via Microsoft Teams, which is great for morale as we can keep abreast of what everyone is doing, share home working tips, and have a nose at each other’s homes! Times may be tough, but we are tougher, and as a team we are making home working work.
