ITEC - Agility & Purpose

ITEC are leading technology managed service providers that work to provide IT, print, business communications with thousands of businesses, schools and organisations across the UK.

They provide companies and organisations with their IT, print, business communications and have recently become a fully owned subsidiary of Xerox.

The IT management sector has had a huge increase in demand for their services with so many businesses working remotely. Very few industries had seen such an escalation in business as I.T as the surge of demand for remote working when restrictions tightened.

We spoke to Chris Wilks, Group Head of Projects, to ask how the virus has changed ITEC’s priorities and how they are managing their workload.

‘Trust your staff. They will get you through this.’

How has your business altered since the outbreak of virus?

Throughout Covid-19, ITEC’s main concern has been the safety of our staff and our customers. Everyone is working from home and trying to keep the business running as usual in these unprecedented circumstances.

Have your priorities shifted?

Not really. We’ve always prioritised staff and customer safety above everything else. This is important as many of the ITEC Engineers are customer facing and go into businesses to offer technical support. In the current environment, this can be tricky but we’re managing to pull off this balancing act. ITEC supports a lot of key workers and organisations like the NHS, so we are prioritising these customers and working hard to make sure they’re supported.

What are your impressions for the next quarter?

As we don’t know when everything will return to normal and the lockdown will end, it’s hard to tell. Xerox’s recent acquisition of ITEC puts us in a strong position and I’m expecting a surge in IT projects as companies react to the situation Covid-19 has put them in.

What have you learned in the last few weeks as an organisation?

I’ve learned even more about how dutiful, dedicated and tenacious ITEC staff members are. I’ve got to give a shout out to my projects team -- they’ve handled the situation amazingly and no problem has been too big or too small. It’s also been amazing to see how other businesses are rallying and reacting to the crisis. It gives me hope that we’ll get through this.

What has surprised or delighted you in recent weeks?

As most of my team are now WFH, daily communication with my team, whether about work or a quick catchup, has been great and my team has been helpful and keen. Mainly, I’ve been delighted by how society has pulled together, supported the NHS and got on with the situation at hand. The spring weather has been nice too.

Who is your unsung hero?

In these circumstances, picking one unsung hero would be ridiculous. Every member of ITEC is my unsung hero, along with everyone who is a key worker out there. Special praise should go out to the amazing work the NHS are doing, they are the true hero’s.

What blogs or Youtube are you watching?

Apart from the ITEC blog? HR recently launched a Wellness Week with links to baked bean exercises and of course, Joe Wicks’ PE lessons. It’s been great fun taking part and getting half an hour of fun exercise in the morning.

What advice would you pass to a fellow business owner?

Trust your staff. They will get you through this.
