The Jubilee weekend 2022 and Peaches Golding OBE, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the County and City of Bristol

On 6th February 2022 Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, its Realms and Commonwealth.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, we wanted to share with you our link to the Queen, not only for Bristol as a city but also personally to Moon, via our Non-Executive Consultant, Peaches Golding OBE CStJ.

Peaches was appointed Consultant with Moon since 2011 and was elevated Lord Lieutenant for the city of Bristol, acting as the Queen’s personal representative, since 2017.

As Lord-Lieutenant, her interests include mental health, widening access to opportunities for those most disadvantaged in society, education, social justice, volunteering and poverty.  In the commercial sphere she is interested in research and development, science and technology-based enterprises as well as sustainability and environmental protection.

Bristol’s Jubilee Celebrations

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will underline the enormous respect and high regard with which the public hold Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” explained Peaches. “Right across the four nations and Commonwealth there will be celebrations marking the world’s longest-reigning female monarch.  Celebrations in the UK will extend from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June, punctuated by several highlights such as the beacon lighting and the Big Lunch.  A huge amount of planning has gone into the activities taking place in Bristol and around the country”.

On Thursday 2 June, beacons will be lit at 9.45pm around the country.  Illuminations powered by a battery charged from renewable energy will beam from Cabot Tower, a location that many Bristol citizens are able to see from their own homes and neighbourhoods. This initiative is led by the Lieutenancy.

On Friday 3 June HM The Queen will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee during a private Service of Worship at St Paul’s Cathedral, London.  Along with Members of the Royal Family, Peaches will join a number of Lord-Lieutenants also attending this happy occasion.

On Saturday 4 June Peaches and other Lord-Lieutenants in the South West have each nominated 12 people to attend the Platinum Party in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.  Individuals chosen for this great honour are being recognised for their huge contributions to their communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Communities across the City and the country are planning local street parties for The Platinum Jubilee Big Lunch on Sunday 5 June. Some roads are being closed while in other neighbourhoods, churches and community centres people will eat, drink, play games, listen to entertainment and more. For those unable to celebrate in their neighbourhoods, Bristol Cathedral and St Georges Bristol, together with community and voluntary organisations and the Lieutenancy, are organising The Big Lunch on Sunday 5th June from 10.30-3.30 pm, which will be a large community event with additional public entertainment to celebrate the Jubilee.

The Big Lunch on College Green will incorporate the following:

  • A free Big Jubilee lunch, catering for 1000 people.

  • Everyone is welcome.

  • Targeting many community groups across the city.

  • Fareshare providing food – to be offered at food stalls.
