Community Grants Panellist: United in Hammersmith & Fulham
UNITED in Hammersmith & Fulham (UNITED) is a place-based giving scheme that promotes, inspires and helps fund activities that deliver a strong sense of belonging in the diverse London borough.
Created by two long established trusts serving Hammersmith and Fulham respectively. Hammersmith United Charities (HUC) and Dr Edwards and Bishop King’s Fulham Charity (DEBK), as part of their joint 400th anniversary, came together to create a new entity to rebuild the tradition of local philanthropy.
Over the last two years, United have undertaken a programme of work to establish a new charity. The core infrastructure of the organisation is now in place and they have established a small grants programme aimed at bringing people in the borough together to strengthen their bonds as neighbours.
United have had a significant fundraising and grant distribution success with a community coronavirus fund, are now moving into the next phase of the development: seeking to engage with the general public and a private donors through awareness and continued fund raising for 2020-25. This is envisaged to result in an increase in community funding over the period.
They believe that everybody has something to offer and want to involve every part of the community: the young, the old, the sporty, the artists and musicians, the listeners and mentors, parents and the carers, regardless of age or ethnicity.
The ethos behind the project is: ‘We want to help everybody to be a better neighbour’.
You can find out more about the organisation on their website.
