Cancer Research UK is delighted to be working again with Moon Executive Search to recruit additional high-calibre and well networked individuals to join their regional board, who together will help us to beat cancer sooner.

The West of England is key in the fight against cancer. Bristol research teams are active in the research to predict and prevent cancer development and progression. There are clinical trials in Bristol hospitals and research taking place at the University of Bristol, including ground-breaking work on the Integrative Cancer Epidemiology Programme.

Why we need you!

We need help from well-connected businesspeople in Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas to help keep this research and trials going.  Cancer effects 1 in 2 people and the research is in the forefront of the fight to focussing on new ways to prevent and predict cancer development and progression.

What will I be doing and what skills do I need?

As a Business Board member, you will work closely with the CRUK team, based here in the West of England, promoting national fundraising events as well as creating new fundraising ideas as a Board to engage the West of England business community and get them involved. This is a voluntary role.

You will use your strong networking skills to help spread the word among business leaders and private individuals about the work and the opportunity to support local research, and to help play a major role in raising funds towards this and other high-level Cancer Research UK science projects.

Ideally, you should have an excellent network in the business and professional communities within the West of England and be willing to open these networks to benefit the activities of the West of England Business Board.

The types of people we are looking for would include:

• Senior business leaders, all industry sectors are welcome, who have an excellent network of business contacts and are willing to utilise. 

• Experience of high-level event management, PR would also be helpful.

In terms of personal qualities, we are seeking to recruit confident, dynamic individuals who are willing to commit some time to join the board, currently meeting once a month early evening in person and remotely.  You will need to be ambitious, tenacious and not afraid to make ‘the ask’.  You should also be approachable, flexible, and able to work as part of a team, as that will be key to the Board’s success.

• Ongoing support and guidance from your West of England based CRUK Fundraising Manager

• Advice on setting up and promoting high value fundraising events

• The opportunity to learn about the Bristol Science Labs based at Southmead Hospital at the Science Quarters, hear from local scientists to see how your money helps save lives

• We will reimburse agreed out of pocket expenses

Where will I be based?

This is a home-based role in the West of England, however part of your role will include you being active in the community e.g. booking venues, sourcing prizes, networking and promoting your event.
