Moon Executive Search will play a key role in assisting Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in this search campaign, utilising their extensive networks and search methodologies.

The role of Chair of Trustees is pivotal both in terms of offering leadership and support to the Board of Trustees and the Principal & CEO, as well as being fully aware of its statutory obligations.  The landscape ahead for drama schools is challenging and complex, with threatened tuition fee cuts and a reduction in grant funding from the Office for Students causing valued institutions to reconsider all areas of their training provision.  This, though, will lead to opportunity and to fresh approaches; a chance to pause, to reflect and then to respond positively and bravely.  The Theatre School would like a Chair who is outward-looking, aspirational and business-like, who can bring those qualities into the School to help to raise its profile nationally and internationally, spotting opportunities and helping to secure exciting and deliverable new ventures that will further enhance Bristol Old Vic Theatre School’s profile and reputation, and will contribute to ensuring the future financial stability of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

The successful candidate will have a:

• Genuine interest in the School and the creative industries sector

• Experience from a similar role in a not-for-profit organisation and of effective governance in an arts, charity, or commercial sector organisation.

• An understanding of the difference between governance (the responsibility of the Chair) and executive management (the responsibility of the Principal & CEO, the Artistic Director and the Finance Director).
