Your Park Bristol and Bath announces new partnership with Hargreaves Lansdown

Your Park Bristol and Bath are clients of Moon Executive Search, having been appointed to build their Board of Trustees in 2019. They believe that together, we can make parks in Bristol and Bath better places to meet, play, learn, grow, breathe and enjoy nature.

We are excited to share the news of their partnership with Hargreaves Lansdown.

Your Park Bristol and Bath (previously known as Bristol and Bath Parks Foundation) is today announcing an exciting partnership between the charity and Hargreaves Lansdown to support the next stages of the innovative project to create a wilder habitat on College Green. The collaboration is being marked by the unveiling of an interpretation board telling the story of the project from its beginnings as a crowdfunder following Greta Thunberg’s visit and Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate rally in 2020, to the present day transformation of the habitat alongside the Cathedral.

Wildflower meadows planted by Your Park and Avon Wildlife Trust volunteers have been an eye-catching sight this summer and are now in full bloom attracting bees and a host of other pollinators to the space. The 450m2 wildflower-rich area contains 5,000 colourful wild flowers of 46 native species chosen for a long season of high pollen and nectar including:

wild poppy, oxeye daisy, sorrel, meadow crane’s bill, field scabious, wild marjoram, betony, bird’s-foot-trefoil, scabious, tufted vetch and red clover.

Twelve different species of hover flies have already been identified at the site which is now also an important habitat for moths and butterflies, beetles, bumblebees and bees. Volunteers from Hargreaves Lansdown will help with the care and maintenance of the meadows including planting thousands of spring bulbs later in the year.

The next stage in the biodiversity plan for the project is to introduce small flowering trees and native hedgerows chosen for their high wildlife value which will further increase the number of species at the site.

Martha Girling, Responsible Business Manager at Hargreaves Lansdown said:

“We are proud to support the rewilding of College Green, helping to provide a sustainable wildlife haven in the centre of our city. This partnership will directly improve College Green for the thousands of people who use it each day, both through the benefits of nature on wellbeing, and the positive effect it will have on Bristol’s climate ambitions.

As a major Bristol employer, HL has an important role to play in contributing to the city’s climate change goals, and our colleagues are really excited to be involved in this project and be a part of the positive impact on the local area. This is just one of a number of initiatives to celebrate our 40th birthday focused on giving back to our colleagues and community.”

Charlee Bennett, Director, Your Park Bristol and Bath commented:

“We are thrilled to have the support of Hargreaves Lansdown enabling us to move forward with the College Green project. We hope that visitors to the space will enjoy learning about the project and the story behind it that has so much meaning for today’s climate and ecological emergencies.”
