MTM Awards 2020 – Back and Ready to Champion
July 31st sees the long-awaited return of the MTM Awards at the Bristol Marriott Hotel for closure of MTM Awards 2020.
After the hiatus of last year the pandemic, Junior Sheikh, CEO of these major international awards, is so proud to be able to finally host this glittering gala awards ceremony for all retrospective nominees from 2020 in the Hotel this July.
Moon Executive Search have sponsored the event for four years and are pleased to be able to contribute towards such a wonderful evening that celebrates the diversity and achievements of the people and businesses in this region and beyond.
MTM Awards welcomes nominations from the Southwest, with national and international nominees and guests.
Junior and his team are delighted to be able to continue to offer a stand-out awards night for 2021, celebrating the essence of business and culture across rich and diverse ethnic minority communities, where the talent and achievements of the contenders deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
2020 has been a very different year the MTM awards team. After the tough decision to postpone the awards for 2020 and to not host them virtually, the team switched their efforts from arranging award shows to helping foodbanks and community groups. Junior also DJ’d to his neighbours to keep spirits high during the first lockdown.
Vanessa Moon, Founding Director of Moon Executive Search said:
‘It is always a fantastic evening event full of love, laughter, and warmth. It is only ceremony of this type in the United Kingdom. At the MTM 2020 awards evening on July 31st, Vanessa Moon, Founding Director of Moon Executive Search will be presenting the award for MTM Young Achievers Award 2020.’
This year also saw the inaugural Environmental Excellence Award at MTM and 85 people have been entered in consideration.
MTM Awards 2021 will be the tenth year of the awards and we are so delighted to continue our sponsorship. The usual red carpet will be replaced with a green one in respect of nominees that that champion the environment, something that Bristol is well known for.
Angel Wanjiru
To mark the 10th anniversary MTM Awards has launched Period Poverty Action Projects creating awareness, supporting communities & providing sanitary towels to deprived communities. They have also organised a 24-hour Hair Marathon, CUT-A-THON on July 4th & 5th.
One focus of the ceremony will be the story of Angel. Angel Wanjiru is a 17 year old girl living with a condition that Doctors termed life threatening at birth known as Congenital Hydrocephalus.
By six months old she had three major operations to try and reverse to effects of her condition but unfortunately by the time two metal plates were inserted her head had swollen to the point of no return.
Her incredible resolve and sprit have meant she has never given, having ambitions to become a musician and motivational speaker championing young people with disabilities. Angel came to the attention of The MTM Awards in 2019 receiving a nomination for The Founders Award. Angel and her mum came to the UK to attend the Awards and left a lasting impression on all who meet her.
Angel took home the Award pipping renowned UK Artist Apache Indian and AIM Academy. At the start of 2021, MTM Awards Brand Ambassador Mariam Omar of BBC Africa informed MTM that Angel had not been able to attend School for a few months. This had a detrimental effect on her health and wellbeing and the MTM Awards team stared to talk with our supports and network to see how we can help.
Angels condition means that she can’t attend public schools in Kenya, and was attending a private school who understand her needs and nurture her talents, ensuring she is not bullied and can be educated in a safe and friendly environment.
With all this in mind MTM Awards decided to use our amazing network of support to get Angel back in school and support her through her education.
George Ferguson, who has supported MTM Awards since we launched in 2012 made the first donation and we managed to get Angel back in School. MTM are now in the process of setting up Angels Foundation to support her through to her A-Levels and then open up support to other disabled children in East Africa get an education and have the best possible opportunities in life.
The #MTM2021 nominations close on the 29th of August and the Glittering Gala Awards Evening for 2021 are pencilled in for December although if there are to be any further restrictions, these will likely be moved to 2022 to guarantee the gala glitz.
This year, with good fortune and an open hospitality sector, we can finally come together to celebrate the individuals that became champions of their communities during a year like no other.
The team at Moon Executive Search will be in attendance and are so proud to play a small part in the MTM celebrations after a challenging 2020.
